POSITION: Staff Attorney
FULL TIME SALARY: $46,000 - $56,00, depending on expereince and excellent benefits
LEGAL SERVICES FOR CHILDREN
Founded in 1975, Legal Services for Children (LSC) is one of the first non-profit law firms established to provide free direct legal and social work services to children and youth. LSC uses an attorney-social worker team model to assist Bay Area youth who need to access the legal system to stabilize or improve their lives. LSC's mission is to empower children and youth by increasing their active participation in making decisions about their own lives.
DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Legal Services for Children (LSC) seeks a staff attorney to represent children and youth in various administrative and judicial proceedings. Duties include client interviews, investigation, legal research and writing, case preparation and oral advocacy as necessary for hearings and case follow-up. LSC's legal services include representation in guardianship, dependency, emancipation, school discipline, and immigration proceedings. The staff attorney will also provide community education and "know your rights" trainings to youth and service providers, and will participate in policy advocacy on behalf of children.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Member in good standing of the State Bar of California
- Demonstrated commitment to the rights of children and youth
- Experience in practice of youth law
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure and in crisis situations
- Well-organized, motivated, creative, independent, and effective in a team-oriented environment
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, writing and interviewing skills
- Fluency in Spanish highly desirable
- Experience in the practice of Dependency highly desirable
