DETAINED IMMIGRANT CHILDREN PROJECT SOCIAL WORKER
Legal Services for Children (LSC) invites applications for a full-time social work position, available immediately. Founded in 1975 as the first nonprofit law firm for children and youth in the country, LSC provides free legal and social services to children and youth in the San Francisco Bay Area. LSC uses an attorney-social worker team model to assist youth who need to access the legal system to stabilize or improve their lives. LSC’s goal is to empower children and youth by increasing their active participation in making decisions about their own lives.
Detained Immigrant Children Project (DICP): DICP provides legal and social work services to unaccompanied immigrant children detained in Northern California by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). The DICP social worker will provide culturally appropriate psychosocial assessment, case management and client advocacy, as part of our attorney-social worker interdisciplinary DICP team. Primary responsibilities include conducting psychosocial assessments and immigration screenings, and providing Know Your Rights (KYR) presentations to children and youth detained at ORR facilities, including secure (juvenile halls) and staff secure (group home) placements. Additional duties include reassessment and follow up planning, case presentation at weekly DICP staffings, attending on-site ORR facility staffings and preparing children for immigration court appearances. LCSW clinical supervision will be provided.
Key Qualifications:
- Preferred candidates will have strong clinical skills and a commitment to providing culturally competent services.
- Experience working with adolescents, past commitments to public interest work, and experience serving vulnerable immigrant communities, including survivors of abuse, human trafficking, and other trauma.
- MSW from an accredited school of social work.
- Must be fully fluent in English and Spanish.
- Experience with MS Office applications, including Excel and Word.
- Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers, government agencies, social service providers and other stakeholders.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work load in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience and comfort with public speaking.
- Valid California Driver’s License – regular travel to ORR facilities is required.
- Energy, optimism and passion for the issues affecting unaccompanied child immigrants is mandatory.
FULL TIME SALARY: $46,000 Starting Salary(+ Dependent on Experience) & Excellent Benefits
